Russian mainstream media Prima Media released a report on August 11 that a resident in seaside border area in Russia was arrested for distributing leaflets about Falun Gong extremism.

According to the media, a female Falun Gong follower was arrested by federal security police when she was distributing printed pages introducing Falun Gong activities in a Chinese marketplace in Ussuriysk. All of her pages containing Falun Gong extremism banned by Russian laws were confiscated. At that time, the woman was holding 135 copies of information briefings in Russian language and 54 pieces of newspaper in Chinese language. She claimed that she distributed the pages with an aim to carry out a survey on linguistics, which was designed to check extremist features in the articles.

Previous reports by Prima Media revealed that it was not the first incident of this kind taking place in seaside border areas. On July 26, police in Vladivostok city arrested four Falun Gong followers and confiscated several packages of newspaper in both Chinese and Russian languages.

APEC Summit is scheduled to be held in Russia on September 8-9. Relevant experts were quoted by Prima Media as estimating that the prevalent activities of Falun Gong followers in Far-East area in Russia may have something to do with the APEC Summit scheduled to be held in Vladivostok. Media outlets controlled by Falun Gong organizations recently released a report entitled "Russia Kowtowed to China Prior to APEC Summit"with an aim to sow dissension between Russia and China with the arrest of Falun Gong followers in Russia.
